Sorry to keep you waiting on this…
First, so great to see you guys at Michael’s and it’s always exciting when people are about to get married. My advice there is, for one day in your life, with probably the exception of your very first book launch party, the wedding is when you are the prince. It’s like everyone is going to be really nice to you, they want to touch you, like you give them luck, and you and Grace are why they came all the way to see you… it’s great and really humbling.
On the vitamins:
The gene disorder is called MTHFR. Apparently, half of America has both genes, a quarter have one, either is bad enough that this vitamin regime will help.
This gene screws up the digestion of folic acid, which helps brain function and is needed to process vitamin B6 and B12, both are really important for clear thinking, full use of your frontal lobe, happiness. It’s hard to feel good without it, which is the collicky thing we talked about, but also most schizophrenics also have the gene problem, meaning it can have a severe impact on some and cause havoc.
Interestingly, smoking destroys B6, but people with the bad gene love to smoke because it feels like it’s doing something for you – “smoking helps me think…” The other one is THC in weed helps to interconnect the silos in the frontal lobe, so it feels like you can see all things and how they relate more clearly. But, if you have more B12, all that would happen naturally, it seems. From my experiments, once the B12 is running through you, you can’t really feel the impact of THC in your brain, only as a body high… More research to follow, of course.
What I bought for delivery from Vitamin Shoppe was L-Methylfolate (1000 mcg), which is what the body would produce if it could process the folic acid. Think of it as a predigested form. Then, I also got the Methyl form of B12 (1000 mcg), which means it’s also the ready to go form. Plus B6 (100 mg) and one called TMG (1000 mg) that also helps to connect the brain tissue. All were one pill a day with meals, except for the B12, which is apparently better as a once every day or other day lozenge. I felt very high from the B12, one time in a good, happy, way, and one time in a very bad, dizzying, eyes bulging out of my head sorta way, so now I’ve just cut the dose, splitting the lozenge in half with a knife, and taking half a pill per day. A third would probably work, too.
I found out about all of this from a lecture from a psychologist talking about people with addictions all should be tested for this as it’s the basic genetic marker, because you get addicted trying things that seem to offer a good feeling that you would have had naturally had the body been digesting B12. Also, tons have been written online, but it’s probably because the vitamins that fix it are cheap, versus some big pharma option, so it’s unpopularly easy to fix.
I was going to offer this as a story to the last place I worked, as the psych is Israeli, but in my last month there they made a point of now wanting to publish anything I would write, so I decided, no need to waste it on them. I still think a lot of people could benefit from understanding all this.
If you try it out, let me know what you find. I’ll add it to the study!
